CLIMBING POMERAPE

Parinacota is famous for its perfect cone shape. It is located in the middle of the lake Chungara Lauca National Park and the wetland Caquena with the neighboring volcanoes Pomerape and Sajama in Bolivia. This place has a rich and fragile ecosystem, where a perfect balance between man and nature in terms of llamas, alpacas, Earth and the universe is visible. With a height of over 6,300 meters and huge glazed sides the rise is of one of the biggest challenges in the northern border of Chile.

Day 1: Arrival in Santiago;
Reception of the group in Santiago de Chile; Transfer by private car to the hotel in Santiago. Check your personal mountain equipment.

Day 2: Santiago-Arica- Putre.
In the morning transfer to Santiago airport; Flight from Santiago to Arica; Here the tour-guide will wait for you, to get you to Putre, acclimatization to 3600m; Hotel.

Day 3: Putre-Hot Springs of Jurasi.
Breakfast in the morning, and then we walk through Putre and make a trek to the hot springs of Jurasi, located at an altitude of 4.000m; Barbecue or picnic. We also take a relaxing walk in this place to acclimatize; Return to Putre in the vehicle; hotel.

Day 4: Putre- Lauca National Park – wetlands of Caquena.
Breakfast in the morning; Transport to the base camp to Putre. We see the Lauca National Park, the lake Chungara and the village Parinacota; Arrival in the wetlands of Caquena at 4500m. This is the ideal route to see the highlands with its villages and churches and the flora and fauna; Camping and dinner.

Day 5: Acclimatization and trekking.
Tour around the wetlands of Caquena and acclimation; You can admire the flora and fauna; Camping and dinner.

Day 6: Acclimatization and trekking.
Breakfast in the morning, and then walk around the wetlands Caquena and the sector Rinconada; Camping and dinner.

Day 7: Base camp- high camp.
Breakfast in the morning, and then a long climb to the high camp, arriving at 5.200m at the snow line; In this section pack animals like donkeys or llamas will help us to carry our gear until we arrive within 4 to 6 hours at the high camp.

Day 8: Rest day.
High camp; A short walk of 2 hours; Camping.

Day 9: High camp- Parinacota summit (6.280m);
Long climb to the summit of about 10 to 12 hours there and back; Camping; Dinner.

Day 10: High Camp- Quaquena- Arica.
Back to Caquena, 3 to 4 hours; Here we will be expected by our transportation for the trip to Arica; Hotel.

Day 11: Arica – Santiago;
Flight back to Santiago; Hotel.

Day 12: Flight back.
Transfer to Santiago airport; Flight.
